GOOD NEWS!

We have got back in touch with the Book and it is off to the next destination!

We can now re-open the Journey's progress.

Thanks to everyone who was concerned!

As of 05 June 2009, the Journey is back to normal.

Important: Have you got the Book?

UNFORTUNATELY, we have lost contact with the Book at the time of writing (01 June 2009). We are working hard to get into contact with the Book again, however this may put a large problem into the flow of the Journey.

Our best case scenario is that either we'll get an email saying "I have the Book - don't panic!" or that it arrives at the next location as planned.
Worst case is that we never see the Book again - which has been a possibility from the beginning that we didn't really want to contemplate.

We therefore urge you, if you have the Book to get into contact with us as soon as you can - either through the website or directly at support@journeyofabook.com. We just need to know that everything is OK!

We have now put the Journey officially on hold. You will be notified of further development as and when they occur.

Journey of a Book is not a business - we make no money from our website because we want everyone to take part. And there are no adverts because you dn't like them, and neither do we!

JOURNEY OF A BOOK has been going now for a few months, and over this time we've been spanning the globe with our journey. However, we'll admit at being a little lax in setting up new features on our website - our map is now there, but that's all.

The question is, what do you want to see?
How can we improve our site?

Privacy Policy - Important for all members

ON THE 21st March we altered our Privacy Policy.

These changes will affect you if;
a) you have not yet received the Book
b) are in the process of receiving the Book

Our main change now removes an email that is sent to you, we felt unnecessarily, to help our process along and also to stop you receiving unnecessary correspondence.

Change One - Previously we would email you to ask if you are going to be at home for the next week or so, so that the Book can be sent to you. Then, you would email us back to confirm that you are, or aren't. If you were available, we would then email you back, giving you 24 hours to confirm that you're happy with your information being sent. However, we now feel that by confirming that you want to join, and that you'll be at home, there is little reason to email you again just to re-confirm this.

Change Two - Previously you were given just 24 hours to confirm by email that you would be at home. We now realise that this is too short a period of time, so it is now extended to 72 hours. We feel that this is a long enough period as the Book needs to be kept in a fluid motion, and any prolonged delays do not assist you or us.

WebUser rating and our response

WE WERE RECENTLY reviewed by the well-respected internet magazine WebUser.co.uk, who gave us a 3* rating for our "novel idea" but also presented us with some problems.
A map was described as a "logical addition", and our site having "jus[t] enough information to get the message across".

Well, we're not a group to criticise anyone; indeed we acknowledge our website's earlier problems and are grateful for their review. And indeed, we have now added our first beta map, using a Google Map widget. You can also link to our Google Map page for a full sized version.

We're also rescripting other parts of our site. We don't want it to appear complex and dense, so we're simplifying it and making it less wordy.

In other news, our new Facebook page is up and running with all of their new features including our stream and wall, and we have opened a discussion on what new features you would like to see on the website. Twitter is also getting quite a bit more use as our Book moves on.

And this, of course brings us to our most importnat update: our Book is, at the time of writing, off to its 5th destination.

Journey of a Book

The Journey is underway

WE ARE NOW able to confim that the Journey has started.

On the 27th January 2009, the Book set out for its first destination from our base in County Durham, England, all the way to North Carolina, United States. From there, the Book is headed to Devon, back in the UK, where it will follow another path.

Our path for the Book is random and somewhat eclectic, criss-crossing the globe, but remember that you have the choice of sending the Book within or out of your own country.
It is still not too late to join the Journey, and you can take part in our project.

We have not yet decided on the location after Devon, but we'll keep you posted!

Getting ready for Christmas?

Tis' the season, and for the Journey, it is the season for the start of the project.
"When?" we hear you cry! Well, in all honesty, we don't know. Yet.
Since ComputerActive's article (for which we are grateful) signups have been going crazy, and we are developing a greater web presence.

An important note:
In the next couple of weeks, every member will receive an email from support@journeyofabook.com to inform them about the project's status.

Today, Journey of a Book has been featured in national (and can I just say, brilliant) computer magazine Computer Active! Labelled as the publications "Site of the fortnight!", this is what they said...

"Starting soon, a real book will be sent around the world via the different members of this website. Each person is supposed to write a message in the book before passing it on. The only cost is posting the book on and you can opt to only send it within the UK. Your address is only sent to the person posting you the book."

We're doing well with the journey - we will soon have a Book to write in too!

We are also picking up members and we promise to update our facebook, blogspot and twitter accounts more often!

It's been a while since we last posted, and now we'vew expanded our connections, it's about time to let you all know.
Journey Of A Book now covers 4 different networking sites, including this one, and we need your help. Add us as a friend, subscribe to us or join us to help spread the word about the Journey. JOAB has on YouTube, Twitter and FaceBook, with regular updates on all. Go to journeyofabook.com/links to find the pages.

Welcome to the Journey's Official Blog

What is this Journey you are talking about?, we hear you cry! Well, we're going to clear it up here.

Journey Of A Book (JOAB) is a brand new project where we send our Journal around the world between members who join on our website. When a member gets the Book, they add their comments and post it to the next member. Simple.

Today saw the relaunch of our website - packed with new features. JOAB can now offer a fully interactive map to track the Book's progress around the world. Not only can we offer the map, but we have also created this Blog, and a newsreel of announcements. But we don't stop there: later this year we will create a member's area and a forum.
